Even those who claim to be completely immune to the canine effect end up being seriously surprised when they lock their eyes with one. TJ, a Wisconsin man who recently adopted a blind dog with his fiance, Angie, is Exhibit A!
Totally opposed to the idea of bringing Bear, the blind dog, into their home, TJ now can’t get enough of his new furry son!
From Being Overlooked To Being His Dad’s Best Friend
Before he captivated the hearts of his parents, Angie and TJ, Bear’s road to happiness was pretty bumpy. He was surrendered to a Wisconsin shelter alongside his six siblings at just a few weeks of age.
Eventually, all of his brothers and sisters were adopted, but this blind little boi remained overlooked…until Angie fell in love with him!
The minute she saw him, Angie knew he had to go home with her. The only problem was that her fiance, TJ, wasn’t very thrilled by the idea. Angie spent quite some time practically begging TJ to say yes to Bear, which he eventually did.
And, when the furry addition finally arrived at their home – TJ wished he had said yes even sooner!
“At first, my fiance was not for it at all. I had to beg. And he ended up being TJ’s best friend,” Angie told GeoBeats Animals.
The two literally became best friends right off the bat. For some reason, Bear found ultimate comfort in his dad, and TJ just loved holding his new “son” in his lap, enjoying long, cozy cuddle sessions.

The funny thing is, Bear has a lot of big breeds in him, yet he ended up being the cuddliest lap dog ever. Bear’s philosophy is pretty much summed up in this: Who cares if he’s part Mastiff or a St. Bernard when he can fit on the couch or a bed, right?
Bear crawled into his family’s hearts as if he had been there forever and soon became the prince of the house!
But, what really took his owners by surprise was how quickly he learned to navigate through the house!
“Being Different Doesn’t Make You Incapable”
Bear’s disability definitely doesn’t hold him back!
Despite being born blind, this resilient boi practically behaves like a regular dog – as he shows no signs of stopping or slowing down. He doesn’t bump into things, he immediately learns how to climb the stairs, and he knows perfectly where all his toys are!
He even learned how to jump onto the bed or couch when he requests cuddles (or nap time), which is fascinating. To an untrained observer, Bear definitely looks like a dog with no disabilities.
“His other senses are so strong. He hears the sounds of how far away things are if you tap, so that’s one of the biggest things we do – we tap on things so he knows where they are,” Angie adds.
Angie and TJ couldn’t appreciate having Bear in their lives more. Every day, he teaches them that being different is not a weakness but a strength.
“The biggest thing we learned from him is that disability is not inability. Just because you have something that’s different about you doesn’t make you incapable,” Angie concludes.
Bear definitely enjoys his life to the fullest. He’s even become an Instagram and TikTok star, dazzling his followers on a daily basis. What a truly great boi!
