Whenever I see a dog abandoned on the street, one question pops into my head: “What makes an owner resort to such a cruel act?”
While I understand that many people lack the resources to take care of their four-legged friends properly, I find it hard to believe that dumping the dog from the car instead of taking it to a shelter could be the only rational solution.
Sadly, that’s exactly what happened to one Australian Shepherd mix in Denver, Colorado.
A surveillance camera from one of the houses captured this heartless act, leaving people deeply shocked.
It Was Hard To Watch
Rane Jaresh, a photographer from Colorado, spotted a dog nervously pacing on the street in front of his home. As he tried to approach the animal, the dog ran away frantically in fear.
Jaresh, however, didn’t give up.
He went inside his house, grabbed some treats, and attempted to befriend the dog once more.
“I heard some neighbors outside saying that there was a loose dog. I tried to approach him, he definitely did not let me. I went inside, grabbed some water, grabbed some treats,” Rane told FOX31 Denver.
At the time, he was unaware of the dog’s situation. He assumed that this adorable Aussie mix was either lost or abandoned until he remembered to check his home’s surveillance video.
What he discovered moments later was truly shocking.
Rane found it hard to believe that someone could be so heartless as to dump such a sweet dog on the street and then drive away, yet that was exactly what happened.
“It’s a pretty disgusting video to watch someone drop such a beautiful dog out of a car,” Rane added.
The video showed the dog, later named Emry, being taken out of the car through the back door. As his owner drove away, Emry ran after the vehicle, desperately trying to reach him. Sadly, it was all in vain.
His owner drove too far, leaving Emry confused and heartbroken.
New Beginning
On a positive note (if there is one), Emry’s owner couldn’t have “picked” a better place to leave his dog.
This Colorado photographer already saved his current Aussie mix, Bear, from a similar situation in the past, and now he embraced Emry with his heart wide open.
Rane and Bear have created so many beautiful memories so far, taking endless hikes and camping trips together. Now, with Emry around, things have only gotten better!
“I kind of like it for him. He has another adventure buddy for all the hiking and camping that I plan on doing,” Rane says.
Emry was scanned for a microchip but did not have one. Unfortunately, his owner’s license plates were not readable from the video, making it difficult to hold his previous owners accountable for animal cruelty.
The good news is that Emry is already adjusting to his new family.
He has already learned a few tricks and has become best friends with Bear. The two play, chase each other, and love spending time together, ultimately turning this heartbreaking story into a positive one.
As for Rane, he’s just happy to have welcomed another furry friend into his life. Hopefully, for the long haul!
