Stray Puppy Proudly Shows Off Beloved Newspaper To Everyone On Street

During a patrol of Northeast Houston, a small puppy carrying a damp newspaper caught the eye of a volunteer with Corridor Rescue.

The little tan dog held his head up proudly, showing off his beloved “toy” while jauntily walking down the street.

Despite the pup’s upbeat attitude, he was suffering physically from life on the street. The volunteer took a quick video and scooped up the puppy, leaving the newspaper behind.

“The newspaper was soggy and smelly,” Page Moore, president of Corridor Rescue, told The Dodo. “He was given plenty of new toys to enjoy.”

A veterinary exam found that the puppy, dubbed Bingo, weighed a mere 11 pounds, with a belly full of parasites. “He was suffering from sarcoptic mange and a secondary bacterial infection on his skin due to scratching himself,” Moore said. “He was also dehydrated. He tested positive for Parvo … luckily, he had a mild case and recovered quickly with treatment.”

When Bingo first arrived at the rescue, he was a bit timid and scared in his new surroundings. However, as his health improved, his upbeat spirit returned.

“He became a spunky little fella!” Moore said. “Bold in spirit and eager for company, young Bingo was as bright and vibrant as a puppy can get! He loved interacting with staff and volunteers and enjoyed all his toys.”

Within the first month at the rescue Bingo began to fill out, gaining 8 pounds. Healthy, happy and cleared for adoption, Bingo began his search for a family. And a mere three months after arriving at the rescue, he found the perfect match, traveling far from the deadly stretch of road where he’d been abandoned.

“His mom saw his listing for adoption and filled out an application with us,” Moore said. “She fell in love and Chance left Texas [on August 2] to live in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with three kids and mom!”

Bingo’s new family renamed him Chance — and the pup couldn’t have been more grateful for a second one. Now, he’s a thriving and happy family dog, who still knows anything can be a toy if you want it enough.

“We are a hockey family,” Bingo’s new mom wrote in an update to the rescue. “Of course, we had to introduce him to the game. He loves chasing pucks around.”
