Sorrowful Dog Trapped In A Crate And Dumped In A Parking Lot Lights Up When She Sees Rescuers

Words can’t describe how helpless and sad Gertrude felt on the day she was abandoned.

Trapped in a crate and dumped in a parking lot, she couldn’t escape and seek help.

All that Gertrude could do was wait and hope that a good soul would extend her the kindness that she needed more than ever before.

Fortunately, someone noticed the abandoned dog and decided to make sure she was safe.

They called the Animal Protection & Control team who rushed to her aid right away.

When the team reached the scene and saw Gertrude, their hearts sank.

The pup was so malnourished that all her bones were protruding. She was also missing a lot of fur.

She hung her head as if she was about to give up all hope.

Once Gertrude saw the good humans approaching her crate, her face lit up.

The team fed Gertrude right away. She was starving and she munched her food as fast as she could.

After finishing her meal, the pup smiled at her rescuers, wishing to thank them for their kindness.

The officers scooped her up and brought her to NOCO Humane, a shelter in Loveland, Colorado.

The shelter’s vet team examined Gertrude and gave her medication to treat her demodex mange.

The pup was sweet toward her vets. She melted with affection and gratitude while she was looking at them.

Since she was severely underweight, Gertrude was put on a feeding program.

Following weeks of care, the adorable pup started recovering.

Just when she seemed to be ready to look for her forever family, Gertrude faced another challenge. She developed an upper respiratory infection.

The shelter staff had no other choice but to put her in quarantine during her treatment.

The pup rejoiced every time her caregivers visited her in order to feed her and give her medicine.

Little by little, Gertrude’s condition started improving.

Overcoming One More Obstacle

Once her respiratory infection cleared up, the pup’s quarantine ended. She was happy to go on walks and play with her shelter buddies.

The staff concluded that their sweet girl was finally eligible for adoption.

When Gertrude thought that nothing stood on her way to finding a forever home, terrible wildfires hit Larimer County.

Due to the Alexander Mountain Fire, numerous families and pets evacuated their homes.

In order to free up space for the evacuated pets, NOCO Humane transferred around its forty shelter residents to two other shelters.

Gertrude relocated to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region, the shelter located in Colorado Springs.

Before she left, her shelter friends kissed her goodbye. Although they were sad to see her go, they were sure that she would soon find her place under the sun.

As soon as Gertrude arrived at the Colorado shelter, the staff received her with warmth and affection.

“So I was there when Gertrude’s van came in and the first thing we noticed is that she was just a bundle of joy,” Cody Costra, the public relations manager at Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region told NOCO Humane.

Shortly afterward, the delightful girl stole the heart of an amazing family.
