Charli was rescued after concerned citizens spotted her being dragged on a chain behind a truck in Texas, her paws aching from trying to keep up. The authorities quickly intervened, and Charli was taken in by a local shelter.
Due to safety concerns, Charli’s new friends decided it would be unwise for her to stay in Texas, so Austin Pets Alive! (APA!) stepped up to help transport Charli to Chicago — where, hopefully, her new forever family was just waiting to meet her.
When the day finally arrived for Charli to head to Chicago, staffers with APA! headed to the shelter to grab her. She was hesitant at first, but once she realized these people were there to help her, she happily went with them.
“Despite all Charli has been through, she has the gentlest heart,” APA! wrote on Instagram.
APA!’s new transport hub has enabled them to rescue nearly 3,000 animals a year from under-resourced shelters in South and Central Texas. Many of these pets are rescued from being euthanized and are sent to rescues across the country that have both the space to care for them and the adoption demand to help them find their forever homes.
Now it’s Charli’s turn, and the sweet Shar-pei is hopeful that very soon she’ll be snuggled up with a family who loves her more than anything.
“That’s what she wants most,” the shelter staff told APA!.
Charli was given lots of love before being loaded into the transport van, and she seemed content as she was settled into her kennel. She knows she’s with people who care about her, on her way to her happily-ever-after.
