Senior Dog Hit by FedEx Truck: A Heartbreaking Story of Survival and Love

A family is seeking justice and answers after their senior dog was run over by a FedEx truck, the driver of which drove off without checking on the poor dog or offering an apology to the family.

The Burleson family, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, had a rescue dog named Bear who was part of their family for 14 years. But their beloved dog was seriously injured in an apparent hit-and-run involving a FedEx delivery driver.

The driver delivered a package to their door, but while driving away struck and ran over Bear in the road. The driver then drove off without a word.

“When he was leaving, he didn’t bother to stop or look to see,” owner Jessica Burleson told WJHL. “I mean, he clearly seen Bear. He looked over in the video and turned back. And he just kept on going even after he hit him, he never stopped.”

“You can clearly see that he didn’t try to stop or anything. He just kept going and never let up. He just kept going on down the driveway,” she added. “It just to me it didn’t seem like he had any remorse for what happened.”

The incident was caught on camera, and upsetting footage shows the poor dog limping, seemingly dragging his hind legs behind him. The family found him hours later, hiding under the underpinning of their home.

They took Bear to the vet, and while he didn’t have any broken bones, a tumor inside his belly ruptured in the collision. Vets could only provide painkillers and estimated that he had just days to live.

FedEx has promised to take action in response to the incident, releasing the following statement to WJHL: “We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of their beloved pet involved in this incident. We take this matter very seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances behind this event. Based on the outcome of our investigation, we will take the appropriate action.”

Burleson says that while FedEx has offered to pay for Bear’s vet bills, but the company hasn’t said what they plan to do with the driver. The family is hoping to at least receive an apology from the driver, after the driver seemingly showed no remorse for their actions.

They also want the driver to lose their job or at least to be reprimanded by the company, suggesting that a similar incident might recur if left unpunished. “If it would have been my six-year-old or my two-year-old playing out in the yard or the driveway or something and just run them over and take off, I mean, that’s definitely not okay for anybody to have to go through,” Burleson said. “Animals, cats, dogs any kind of animal and just run them over and just take off is definitely not okay.”

What a nightmare for this family — we can’t believe a FedEx driver ran over this sweet senior dog and drove away without a word 🤬😢
