Rescuers Were Surprised To Learn This Bat-Eared Puppy’s True Identity

For the hoomans who work with our lovely furry friends, the breed was never the issue.

No matter their size, these kind souls will make sure that every animal in their care receives the love and respect that they deserve.

When a little fur ball came into the care of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, the only thing the staff members cared about was how to get this sweet angel on his paws and ready to take on the world.

Everything Is Not As It Seems

At first, many thought that this adorable newborn was actually a sweet puppy.

However, as he spent some time in the loving hands of the Cincinnati workers, his little body started changing and, in just a matter of a week, he proved to everybody that he wasn’t what they thought he was.

This adorable fellow was actually a fox!

Despite his puppy-like appearance, this sweet boy was a completely different breed.

Luckily, the zoo workers didn’t seem to care too much about his real identity – all they needed was for him to be nice and healthy.

Thus, they began the best part of their job  – introducing the fur baby to all the wonders of the real world!

Since he was just a newborn, it was of utmost importance for him to grow up into a big, strong boy. And, what better way to do so than with yummy and nutritious meals?

So, they began bottle-feeding him, and it’s safe to say that he loves it.

“The kit, a boy, is progressing well with bottle feeding.  He sleeps a lot, which is normal, and makes adorable vocalizations when it’s feeding time. His eyes are already open, and he is curious about his surroundings,” said Cincinnati Zoo’s Animal Ambassador Team headkeeper Samantha Villa.

I’m pretty sure we can all agree that there is nothing but sunshine and rainbows awaiting this adorable little guy when he grows up. Such a loving environment can provide nothing short of that!

A Little About Bat-Eared Foxes

These cute little desert dwellers are best known for their adorably massive ears and beautiful pointy faces.

However, their massive ears aren’t just for show. They actually serve as big antennas that help them detect the tiniest insects, such as termites and beetles, which they love to snack on.

They also serve as big fans, keeping them nice and cool in the scorching summer heat.

Bat-eared foxes are super playful and social, and they love to stay in groups so they can have neverending playdates!

Even though this sounds like a description for ideal pets, that isn’t really their cup of tea. Since they are wild animals, they have specific needs that are difficult to meet in a domestic setting.

In short, best to keep them in the wild or in the loving hands of professionals such as those at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden.
