When Arya’s mom realized she was getting a little chubby, she decided to sign her up for physical therapy at Four Paws Animal Hospital, where she works as a receptionist.
“She has always been an active dog, but with me being a single mom, our walks haven’t been as frequent as they used to be, and she just needs a little help to shed some of those pounds,” Angelina, Arya’s mom, told The Dodo.
Angelina hoped walking on the underwater treadmill would be the kickstart that Arya needed — but Arya very much disagreed.
“She is not a fan of the treadmill,” Angelina said. “She loves water normally but not the underwater treadmill.”
One day, as Arya begrudgingly strolled on the treadmill, her physical therapy technician, Hannah, tossed a pool noodle into the water to keep her occupied. It was supposed to be a fun distraction, but Arya immediately had other ideas.
“She was just carrying it in her mouth at first, almost like it was a support for her,” Angelina said. “She then began to shake it and tear it apart.”
Arya decided right then and there that if she was going to be forced to exercise, she was going to make everyone in the room regret it immensely.
“Once she got a smaller piece apart, Hannah started to take the bigger pieces out, and she used the remaining piece in her mouth to go under the water with it and would shake it aggressively,” Angelina said. “That’s when she started making bigger splashes. She does not enjoy working out on the treadmill, and this was like a, ‘Ha, take that, guys, this is what you get for making me exercise!’”
Arya was making such big splashes that water was flying all over the room, hitting her mom, her technicians, and even other technicians and patients doing their own thing. Arya was incredibly pleased with herself, and all anyone could do was laugh.
Once her 20 minutes were up, Arya continued to hold her piece of shredded pool noodle proudly. She hoped the ordeal would make everyone think twice about making her exercise again — but really, it just made them think twice about the pool noodles.
