Nick and Boston are two lovable pit bulls who live on a ranch in Brazil with their mom, Melrosi. There, the pair enjoy one another’s warm companionship, along with that of the family’s two other rescue dogs.
But recently, Nick and Boston made yet another friend — someone no one expected.
It all began one day when a hummingbird emerged from the surrounding wilderness, arriving to where Nick and Boston were outside relaxing. What happened next might best be described as magical.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Melrosi’s sister, Edilene, told The Dodo. “They made friends with the hummingbird.”
According to Edilene, after a few moments of interaction, the hummingbird flew away. But she didn’t stay gone for long.
Since then, she’s begun making regular visits to Nick and Boston.
“[The hummingbird] doesn’t come close to us, but she’s friends with the dogs,” Edilene said. “It’s the most beautiful thing.”
What sparked this unlikely friendship is anyone’s guess. But the bird’s remarkable trust in Nick and Boston is far from unwarranted.
“They’re friendly and docile,” Edilene said. “Sometimes, the hummingbird will rest on their heads while they sleep.”
The little bird enjoys the dogs’ company so much, in fact, that she’s begun building a new nest closer to their house, making her pop-ins with the pups all the easier.
For Edilene, seeing the bond forged between Nick, Boston and that very outgoing hummingbird is something bordering on the divine — a friendship made in heaven.
“It’s a really beautiful thing,” she said. “God’s perfect work.”
