A dog in pain is probably one of the hardest sights to witness for all canine lovers.

Just seeing their sad faces and eyes that seem to scream, “Help me, hooman,” makes every heart shatter into a million pieces.

One such case recently broke mine when I stumbled upon Nik’s story.

Severely injured, he dragged his hind legs through the mud, trying to move. Instead, all he could do was take a few painful steps and wait, pausing to drink from a puddle as he had no other choice.

He Was Completely Helpless

A random passerby spotted Nik in a devastating condition. He was all alone, standing in the mud, with his back legs entirely paralyzed. 

Nik had no food or water anywhere around. All he had was a puddle right in the middle of the mud, which he used for drinking. 

The kind person immediately called local rescuers who rushed to the scene.

The team of volunteers had no trouble scooping him up, as Nik had no response. He was completely calm, putting all his faith into humanity. After all, he had no other choice, as his tiny legs had let him down.

However, the good thing was that Nik’s spirit was not broken! His resilient nature helped him believe that everything would work out.

The Road To Recovery

Nik spent the night in his rescuer’s home, eating warm food for the first time in forever. He was far from being okay, yet getting a nice meal truly helped him come out of his shell.

He knew right away that the woman who welcomed him was worth trusting, and Nik completely gave in.

During his vet exam, he was diagnosed with permanent spinal damage. He also had bladder issues and needed to wear diapers due to urinary incontinence. Fortunately, Nik responded to touch successfully, which was a good sign after all.

In addition to incontinence, he suffered from a decubitus ulcer caused by excessive pressure on his paws.

For weeks, Nik received antibiotics and underwent physiotherapy. With many ups and downs, he managed to stand on his legs for short periods of time. Sadly, his hind legs never fully responded.

The woman, alongside the vet team, dedicated all her time and patience to Nik’s treatment. They spent months showering this sweet boi with TLC, which ultimately resulted in the most wonderful news!

Only six months into his treatment, a family reached out to Nik, wanting to adopt him.

Here Come The Pawfect Hoomans

It was a dream come true – a story with the perfect ending… a day Nik had hoped would come for so long!

After all this time marked by pain and suffering, he was finally rewarded with a nice forever home and people who had nothing but endless love for him! Nik even got a customized wheelchair that helped him move around easily – and he loved it!

Today, he has many friends and makes an excellent companion on walks.

Everyone in the neighborhood knows who Nik is, and it is safe to say that he definitely steals the show wherever he goes. Despite his leg disability, he still moves as if he’s perfectly healthy, leaving people in awe.

Nik’s spirit is indeed unbreakable. Something deep inside him makes him never look back and look forward to every new adventure. 

But, most importantly, after all this time – he’s finally happy.
