Minnie and her dad loved each other unconditionally and they thought that their happiness would last forever.

When her dad learned that he had a rare form of cancer, the doggo stayed by his side, cheering him on and showering him with love.

However, as he continued with his treatment, Minnie’s owner was forced to make a heartbreaking decision. 

He had to separate from his beloved dog and find her a place where she would receive all the care and love he could no longer give her.

Minnie’s Life At A Shelter

The Humane Society of Greater Niagara took Minnie under their care in October of 2024 as her dad continued battling cancer.

Unfortunately, a month later, his health started deteriorating and he had no other choice but to surrender Minnie. The big-hearted man wanted her to find her happiness.

The doggo didn’t understand what happened to her dad. She hoped that he was alright and she dreamed of seeing him again.

Playful and affectionate, Minnie quickly became a favorite among the shelter staff. 

Everyone could tell that her owner poured a lot of love into her.

Although the dog was very sweet, the adopters kept passing her by.

Minnie’s dad never stopped thinking about her. 

“And even while he battled cancer, he thought of her every single day, carrying her dog tags in his wallet and visiting the shelter just to catch a glimpse of her from afar.,” Humane Society of Greater Niagara wrote on Facebook.

Years passed as Minnie kept waiting at the shelter for someone to take her home and fill her heart with the happiness that she deserved.

The doggo continued playing with the staff and soaking up the love they gave her. 

Because of their affection, Minnie didn’t give in to sadness. 

The Happiest Possible News

In August of 2024, her owner learned that he was in remission so he immediately thought of his adorable dog. 

He visited the shelter’s website, hoping that she was still available.

Once he saw her sweet face on the screen, his eyes filled with tears. He raced to the shelter to re-adopt Minnie and take her to their home.

As soon as her dad arrived, the staff took the dog out of the kennel and led her to the corridor.

Once Minnie saw her dad waiting for her, she couldn’t contain her excitement. Her heart soared with happiness. 

She rushed to his side and threw herself in her dad’s arms, wishing to kiss him and hug him at the same time.

Both Minnie and her dad were over the moon.

The shelter staff felt emotional to witness such a heartwarming reunion. Although they knew that they would miss Minnie, they were so happy for her.

“After 750 days and a failed adoption, Minnie is back where she belongs. She has her dad, a forever home, and a special place in all our hearts… Here’s to Minnie and her dad, a love that never gave up,” the shelter wrote.
