It’s not so common to stumble upon a big, living surprise in a tree trunk. In fact, it’s not common at all! Yet, this Missouri homeowner found one right outside their house!
At first, it looked like a surreal sight. Is that really a tiny head peeking out of it? How many of these furballs are there? And, how come no one hasn’t noticed them?
All these questions and no answer… until a team of kind rescuers arrived at the scene and explained everything!
Furry Surprise That Shocked Everyone
The homeowner was shocked when they identified the furballs curled up in a hollow tree trunk. They were puppies and there were so many of them! Yet, it was so dark inside and the puppies crawled even further inside that it was almost impossible to count them all.
They ultimately informed Tanya Meeks, the founder of Ozarks Pet Rescuein Missouri, about the situation. Just minutes later, she and her team were at the scene!
According to Meeks and her team, the babies were from the dog they had been trying to rescue for days. After losing track of her, the rescuers almost gave up hope of ever finding her – until then.
Meeks and the team slowly approached the tree and began to pull out the puppies. After securing two of them, a problem occurred. The rest of the litter retreated even deeper into the tree trunk, making it impossible for the rescuers to reach them.
The mom dog also got so spooked that she ran away.
But, Meeks and the team thought of a different strategy. The son of one of their board members, still a boy, offered to help and crawl into the hole to catch the remaining puppies.
As it turned out, there were nine of them still in the trunk – and in no time, all ten were saved.
“First we only could grab 2 with catch pole until remaining hid in holes under a tree, luckily one of our board members son offered to crawl into small hole to save remaining 10 puppies,” the Missouri rescue wrote on Facebook.
After a successful rescue, the team immediately transported the puppies to their facility. They provided them with food and a cozy place to sleep while figuring out how to reunite them with their mom.
Unfortunately, due to anemia, one of the puppies didn’t make it.
Over the following days, Meeks carefully scanned the area while setting a humane trap nearby, hoping to catch the mom dog. Finally, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to do so, the momma gave in!
She was reunited with her litter and couldn’t be happier. Just being with her babies, she immediately blossomed and acclimated to the new environment. The rescue named her Aida.
“Everyone meet Aida and her 10 puppies! Unfortunately the 11tg didn’t survive due to being severely anemic and also the run,” the rescue added.
Living A Brand-New Life
It’s safe to say that Aida is one proud mom! She’s all about her puppies and spends every single minute with them in a cozy foster home.
“Aida being a proud mama! All her babies are doing amazing and Aida is the sweetest girl,” the rescue wrote.
For now, Aida and her babies will learn all about love, care, and life with humans. When the time is right, all of the dogs will be looking for their forever homes hopefully next to owners who will show them nothing but kindness.
They certainly deserve it!
