He Was Thin, Balding And Losing Hope — Then The Right People Arrived

Back in May, a Good Samaritan contacted the Pennsylvania SPCA with shocking news. There were 17 dogs living nearby in terrible conditions. Animal law enforcement rescuers headed to the scene and found that the Good Samaritan was right.

“The dogs, who should have had beautiful, fluffy white coats, were instead nearly hairless with crusted scabs and open wounds,” the Pennsylvania SPCA wrote in a post at the time.

One of these dogs was Coda.

Safe at the shelter, Coda didn’t need much time to adjust. His bubbly personality immediately made him stand out from the pack.

“Coda was definitely one of the more outgoing dogs,” a representative from the Pennsylvania SPCA told The Dodo. “He loved being around people. It was as if he knew we were there to help.”

Shelter staff almost couldn’t believe Coda’s friendly spirit had persisted despite the odds.

“After everything he had been through, he remained so forgiving and resilient,” the representative said.

Veterinarians devised a feeding plan for Coda. The pup received medicated baths multiple times a week. As the days went by, Coda’s beautiful white coat began to grow back. At last, he became the snow-colored teddy bear he was always meant to be.

Now, all he needed was a family.

Once medically cleared, Coda moved to a foster home and began looking for his people. Soon, he had a new mom and a new name — Bo.

“[H]e is the best dog ever!” Bo’s new mom told the Pennsylvania SPCA. “I’ve never met a more affectionate dog — all he wants is love. He wants to be friends with every person and every dog he meets.”

These days, Bo doesn’t have to worry about much at all, and that’s just what rescuers always wanted for him.

“Seeing dogs like [Bo] get a second chance at life is why we do what we do,” the representative said. “As he left with his new family, you would never be able to tell that he had experienced such suffering. He was truly happy.”
