Every pet owner knows that the worst thing that can happen to them is losing their furry friend.
Pets are more than just animals; they are family members who give us unconditional love, companionship, and joy. The bond between a pet and its owner is built on countless shared moments – warm cuddles, playful afternoons, and cozy evenings.
When a pet goes missing, the house feels empty and the silence can be overwhelming. The uncertainty of their well-being brings an unbearable sense of helplessness. Questions like “Are they safe? Are they hungry or scared?” replay in our heads, creating a storm of worry and heartache.
Unfortunately, the Comer family knows exactly what this feels like.
Where Have You Gone?
Even though December is supposed to be the happiest time of the year, Brooke Capo Comer and her loving family went through the most heartbreaking thing ever.
Their adorable pup, Athena, managed to find a way out of their home, disappearing into the big unknown.
The second they noticed she was gone, the family did everything they could to locate her – from brushing through their neighborhood to asking every passerby if they saw her. Unfortunately, they were unsuccessful.
Not willing to give up, the family decided to make a Facebook post, informing everybody that their beloved furry friend was missing.
“No sightings of her yesterday. Please if you see her text the numbers below. She is greatly missed! … Please let me know if spotted and please don’t approach because she’s so scared she will take off,” they wrote.
Best Christmas Present Ever
Within the next couple of weeks, skittish Athena was spotted a couple of different times throughout the neighborhood.
But, because she was so scared and anxious, she kept running away from anybody who even thought about approaching her.
With Christmas around the corner, the Comer family was afraid that they would be spending the happiest holiday without their favorite family member. Suddenly, they received the best early Christmas gift ever.
During their Christmas Eve gathering, they received a doorbell notification that somebody was waiting at the front door. After checking the camera, they saw it was Athena!
“My ring started going off like crazy and I pulled up the ring and it was her! So, I jumped out of bed, ran there and I think i was so much in shock, it was her and she made her way back here. It’s astounding,” Brooke said in a video.
Finally, the family was reunited and it happened at the best possible moment!
“Thank you so much for all the help. I can’t not thank this community enough for how you guys came together for us and Athena!! It truly melted my heart and I am forever grateful!!!” Comer wrote in a post to her neighbors.
Final Word
This is the perfect opportunity to remind everybody how important microchips and adequate home security are.
A microchip is a simple, cost-effective way to ensure your furry friend can be identified and returned if they ever wander off or get lost.
Equally essential is creating a safe environment at home – secure fences, locked gates, and ensuring windows and doors are escape-proof can make all the difference.
Taking these precautions not only protects your pet but also offers peace of mind, knowing you’ve done everything possible to keep them safe. Remember, better safe than sorry!
