Family Picked Up Their Golden Retriever From Daycare Only To Realize They Got The Wrong Dog

They say Golden Retrievers are one of the friendliest dogs in the world.

I second that.

They truly are super friendly with everyone, even strangers. If a Golden likes you, he doesn’t mind if you’re a regular family member, a friend, or even an intruder. They’re just adorably sweet and amicable all the time.

No wonder this family from Virginia didn’t realize their mistake. Rarely would any other dog come home willingly with a stranger, but a Golden would.

This friendly intruder was busted by no one other than the family cats – they sniff everything, especially dogs they don’t know.

Doggy daycare centers are a blessing. They’re the best solution for dog owners who have to go to work and have to leave their dogs at home.

But, as it turns out, these daycares can be a bit of a curse.

What this family from Virginia experienced one day happens rarely. But, as they say, one time is too many.

It was a normal day for Emmy, the Golden Retriever, and her family. Every morning, this sweet Golden girl goes to doggy daycare and she loves it. Time well-spent with her dog friends is something priceless.

That day, Emmy’s family decided she needed a haircut, so they chose the groomer at the daycare to make their girl prettier. Nothing unusual, right?

Well, things started getting unusual at the end of the day when the family’s son came to pick up Emmy. She looked a bit odd, but everyone assumed it was the new haircut. They’ll get used to it.

However, certain family members figured out what was wrong immediately, and they said it loud and clear that they would never be okay with the change.

The family cats sensed it wasn’t their beloved Emmy, the dog they all loved and showered with kitty kisses daily. Instead, the cats started attacking the new Emmy, hissing at her and clearly showing they didn’t like what was going on.

It became clear to the family that it wasn’t their dog when the new Emmy started licking faces (something the old Emmy never did), and when she didn’t greet their dear neighbor (something Emmy always did).

Off to the vets! Microchip scanning had to be done ASAP!

The vet only confirmed their suspicions: it wasn’t Emmy.

So, we picked up the wrong dog from the daycare. Interesting… Where is our precious Emmy? Is she still there, waiting for us, heartbroken?

The family rushed to the daycare center and found out that they had two almost identical Goldens: Emmy, and the new Emmy. It was an honest mistake that would have happened to anyone.

Both dogs were returned to their rightful owners. And, Emmy, the real one, was finally at home.

Can you imagine the look on her concerned face when the son came in and took the other dog instead of her? The poor girl was definitely confused and awfully sad.

Good thing both dogs were microchipped. If you’re still not convinced whether to microchip your dog, this is the sign you’ve been waiting for. Up to 50% of lost dogs that are microchipped get returned to their families.

Imagine how low that number would be if microchipping didn’t prove how beneficial it was. The number of broken hearts and lost dogs would be too high to process.

Microchipping doesn’t cost a lot of money. Some vet clinics offer it for only $20 or so. If you want a dog, you can spare an Andrew Jackson out of your wallet.
