Family Finds Box With A Heartbreaking Note And Scared Babies Inside

A family was playing basketball in front of their house when they noticed a box sitting near the curb. From afar, they could see a note written on the box and went over to see what it said.

The side of the box read, “Free kittens.”

“It was shocking and confusing,” Elizabeth Grimes told The Dodo. “The four kittens were in a box with no food and an old pair of underwear.”

On one of the box flaps, an additional note read, “This stray cat that would come to my door had babies under my porch. I don’t know what to do! I can’t afford to keep them.”

The kittens were huddled up together and shivering. They were covered in fleas and visibly dirty. Without hesitating, the family immediately brought them inside and started to get them cleaned up.

“I made a post on our local Facebook page because we’re a pretty supportive community, and I knew people would have good suggestions of who to contact for help,” Grimes said.

Luckily, it didn’t take long for someone to step up. A local animal lover agreed to foster the three white kittens. As for the only black kitten, the family decided they had a different plan for her.

“Just a few days before we found the kittens, my 9-year-old son’s guinea pig died,” Grimes said. “He was very brokenhearted. We had already talked about possibly getting him a kitten around Christmas. So when we found these, we told him he could pick one to keep. He chose the black one. It was the runt. He helps feed and care for her and he chose the name Cuddles. They’ve been two peas in a pod ever since.”

Cuddles is now a loved member of the family, and all three of his siblings already have homes lined up for them as well. The kittens went from being thrown away like trash to being loved beyond belief, and their rescuers are just so thrilled that they were there to help.
