Chad Tavernia has become an expert at finding lost pets through his company North Country Drone Search & Recovery. There’s nothing more rewarding than reuniting furry family members with their worried loved ones, so when he heard about a pup named Carmal who went missing a few days before Christmas, he knew he had to help.
Carmal was playing in her yard and enjoying the snow when the lead she was attached to snapped and she ran off into the woods behind her house. Her dad searched everywhere trying to find her, but between the deep snow and all the trees, it seemed like an impossible task.
Refusing to give up, Carmal’s dad contacted Tavernia and told him the situation. On Christmas Eve in the afternoon, Tavernia flew his drone over where Carmal had disappeared and began scanning the area. At that point, she’d been missing all night, and her family was desperate to bring her home.
Within 15 minutes, Tavernia was able to give them the news they’d been hoping for: He’d found Carmal.
Carmal had ended up tangled in some bushes deep in the woods, unable to free herself. She was curled up sleeping in the snow when Tavernia spotted her on his thermal imaging drone. He guided Carmal’s dad to where she was while continuing to keep an eye on her on the screen. Finally, Carmal’s dad spotted her from a distance, but was worried when he saw she wasn’t moving.
“Just call out to her, sir,” Tavernia told Carmal’s dad.
As soon as Carmal heard her name, her head immediately perked up, and that’s when she saw that her dad had found her and she was finally going home.
The poor pup had gotten herself well and truly tangled in the bushes, but her dad was able to set her free. They then headed home on foot while Tavernia flew his drone back overhead, another joyous reunion under his belt.
Without Tavernia’s drone, Carmal might never have been found and reunited with her family, and her family is forever grateful for his dedication to bringing pets home, where they belong.
