Driver In Middle Of Nowhere Finds Three Babies Living In A Pipe

Earlier this month, a man named Jim Tietsort driving in Kennewick, Washington, came across three abandoned dogs who’d been using a big pipe as a makeshift home. Tietsort wasn’t able to catch the dogs, so he posted a picture on Facebook, hoping the community would come together to help.

Nikki Surgeon, a local to the area, saw the post and decided to drive out to where the dogs had been staying. Even though she wasn’t able to find them at first, she didn’t give up.

“For somebody to dump dogs where they have nowhere to go and there’s no shelter — and it was like 98 degrees [Fahrenheit] out — it’s terrible,” Surgeon told The Dodo.

She returned the next day and was finally able to spot them. Still, she wasn’t able to catch the three pups. So she and another Good Samaritan named Sandy Orton started visiting the dogs three times a day to earn their trust.

“We were pretty persistent, because we were like, ‘We’re not leaving them. We’re going to get them one way or another,’” Surgeon said.

Within the next two days, Surgeon, Orton and other community members were able to catch two of the dogs. But the female dog proved to be the most skittish.

Finally, at the end of the fifth day, Surgeon and Orton held their breaths as the female dog allowed them to slip a collar over her head. Even though she’d been wary of them for so long, once she realized she was safe with them, she warmed right up.

“All she needed was to be reassured,” Surgeon said.

All three dogs promptly got the medical attention and TLC they desperately needed. Once again, Surgeon went above and beyond for these dogs by opening her home to them.

Surgeon decided to name the dogs Buddy, Baylee and Blaze (also referred to as Canyon, Pebble and Sierra by the shelter). All three are playful, smart and loving. They’ve really opened up despite the difficult circumstances they were rescued from.

The shelter is currently urgently looking for someone to foster them long-term or adopt them. If anyone in the area is interested, you can submit an application to Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue.

At the end of the day, all Surgeon wants is for these dogs to be happy and comfortable.

“They really are so deserving of a loving home,” she said.
