Dog Who Came to the Shelter as a Puppy Is Still Waiting for a Home

Monty and his brother, Phoenix, were surrendered to animal control when they were just four-and-a-half-week-old puppies.

Kathleen C. Cailloux Humane Society of Kerrville (KCHS), a shelter in Texas, took them in.

The staff gave them a lot of love, hoping that they would soon find a permanent home.

Although they were timid and insecure, Monty and Phoenix got used to life behind the shelter walls.

They spent their shelter days playing in the grass while dreaming of finding freedom and love.

Monty Experiences A Heartbreak

Monty was the first to find a home while Phoenix remained at the shelter.

The adorable pup was excited to start a new life with his family and he truly believed that this was his happy ending.

The pup spent four years with his new family, enjoying his freedom and the family life he always dreamed of.

Sadly, his world was turned upside down when his family returned him to the shelter. At the time, Monty was no longer a young and playful pup that his shelter friends used to know.

Once he was back at the shelter, Monty didn’t reunite with his brother, Phoenix, who found his forever home.

The staff at the Kerrville shelter noticed that Monty was a bit timid but they still believed that he would find a loving home.

Sadly, their wish hasn’t come true.

It’s been almost seven years since his adoptive family returned him to the shelter and Monty continues to wait for someone to give him a second chance at love.

Everyone who met the doggo fell deeply in love with him and they kept rooting for Monty to ride into the sunset with his forever family.

Dreaming Of Finally Finding Forever Humans

While Monty’s personality has stayed very much the same, the color of his fur has changed.

Throughout the years, his coat, which was originally black, became sprinkled with gray and it is a stark reminder of the long time Monty has spent waiting for a forever home.

Ever since Monty returned to the shelter, he has shown signs of anxiety whenever he is near other animals and he doesn’t make any doggy friends.

However, Monty doesn’t let his anxiety get in the way of enjoying his life. He loves spending time with his favorite humans. Whenever he is around them, he is the same affectionate and playful pup that he has always been.

“Monty may be old [in] years, but he is still a puppy at heart. He loves to be dressed up in sweaters and tutus, and he also loves his [pajamas],” Mackenzie, KCHC’s director, told The Dodo.

Despite Monty’s anxiety and the fact that he doesn’t get along with animals and children, his shelter friends believe that he will make an ideal furry companion to someone.

“Although he doesn’t get along with other animals or children, he is the sweetest soul you would ever meet. He does still love to go on his daily walks, but he hangs out for [the] majority of his day and has major puppy-dog eyes for anybody who looks at him,” Mackenzie added.

The doggo can’t wait to achieve his biggest dream and find his perfect match. He hopes that someone will finally give him all the love he craves.
