Dog Trapped on Florida Bridge for 12 Hours Finally Rescued and Adopted

Recently, a stray dog found herself in an unlikely and terrifying place — alone on the shoulder of a Florida bridge. No one knows how she got there. Maybe someone dumped her, or maybe she accidentally trapped herself there while looking for help. Whatever the case, she was now hopelessly cornered, peering anxiously down from her perch, trembling as each car raced by.

For over 12 hours, the pup waited on the side of the bridge. Finally, a driver noticed her and called Jacksonville ACPS for help.

Animal care personnel sent a team of rescuers to the scene. One rescuer, Kyle, remembers seeing the fearful pup for the first time.

“She was so nervous,” Kyle said in a video for The Dodo.

Kyle knew they didn’t have much time. He steadied himself, then prepared to attempt a rescue.

“I had to take a few breaths,” Kyle said. “I knew this was a very dangerous situation. The wind was blowing the bridge, every car that passed by, you could feel the bumps.”

Miraculously, the dog barely flinched as rescuers secured her with a rope and pulled her up from the ledge.

“I think she knew that she was gonna be safe,” Kyle said.

The animal lover almost couldn’t believe their good fortune. The rescue was swift and seamless, and everyone was OK.

“I just had a sigh of relief,” Kyle said. “It even brings emotion now.”

Back on steady ground, the pup gratefully accepted belly rubs from her new friends.

“Once I saw that she was letting us pet her, I knew she was gonna be a great dog,” Kyle said.

Now, all she needed was a home. Luckily, it didn’t take long to find one.

“She got adopted by a really cute family,” Kyle said. “She just went from fearful to the happiest dog.”
