Dog Surprises Shelter Staff with an Unbelievable Move

Many shelter dogs never get the chance to experience life in a beautiful family.

Black dogs, in particular, face this heartbreaking issue the most. Due to the infamous “black dog syndrome,” which is widely recognized all over the world, pups like Vera are being constantly overlooked in their tiny kennels.

Fortunately, Vera has a whole village behind her. And, an unusual, shocking trick to spark the interest of potential adopters!

Here’s what the trick is about…

How Did She Do It

After being surrendered to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, in Florida, by her family, Vera had a series of unsuccessful adoption events. Whether it was her black color or the fact that she was a big Doberman mix girl, no one could tell exactly.

To do something about it, her caregivers and Adam, the photographer and the founder of Tampa Pet Photo Studio, decided to help Vera get extra exposure.

Adam’s “Second Shot” program was the answer. The program implies providing shelter pups with a new photo to reach more people on social media, and now it was Vera’s chance.

Little did they know that Vera’s “shocking talent” would make her popular, too!

Before the photoshoot, Vera was very nervous, sticking to the shelter volunteer. The minute she received gentle cuddles and pats on the head, she started stretching out in a very unusual way.

The next moment, she flicked out her back paw and dropped her knees to the floor like a cat. It literally looked like she was kneeling – something her caregivers had never seen in a dog.

“We had never seen a dog sit like Vera was sitting before! It had us pretty concerned but she didn’t appear to be in any pain nor did it hinder how she walked,” Adam wrote on Instagram.

At first, the team assumed Vera suffered from an underlying health issue. However, the vet exam and an X-ray showed she was a perfectly healthy dog. That’s right. Vera had no abnormalities. Her sitting position was just a part of who she was.

“The shelter did x-ray and the results didn’t find any abnormalities thankfully,” he added.

Vera’s “weird sitting position” soon went viral, sparking the attention of people nationwide. People began to leave comments and share her video, which ultimately brought endless joy to this sturdy girl.

Just a few days later, a woman reached out to the Florida shelter. The rest, as they say, is history!

“We’re SO happy to report that Vera got adopted and is now living her best life,” he stated.

Finally, after so much waiting and so many days in despair, Vera, a cute, happy-go-lucky dog, is where she is supposed to be. She’s in a nice home next to the hooman who loves her with all her heart.
