Dog Stranded on Highway Melts Into Rescuer’s Arms After Being Saved

The other day, Rosa María Segura Alcántar and her husband, Erick, were driving on a highway near their home in Mexico when something caught their eyes.

There, stranded in the middle of the busy road, was a dog. Rosa and Erick knew they had to stop.

“She looked confused, dehydrated and malnourished,” Rosa told The Dodo. “We stopped, and she started coming towards us.”

After pulling over, Erick waited for a break in traffic to cross the highway — greeting the poor pup and reassuring her that they were there to help.

Here’s that moment on video:

Once back in the car with the dog, Erick and Rosa noticed she had an old injury on her neck, indicating that she had been tied up somewhere beforehand and had likely been abandoned.

Thankfully, now she was safe — and she seemed to know it.

As the car drove to safety, the dog melted into her rescuer’s arms.

Fortunately for the pup, who has since been named Manzana, she’d been found by the perfect people. Rosa and Erick run an animal shelter called Refugio Xollin and are dedicated to caring for and rehoming needy dogs.

“We feel relieved to have Manzana with us,” Rosa said. “She would have died out there, either hit by a car or from a lack of food and water.”

Tragedy had been avoided. For Manzana, a better life awaits.

Rosa and Erick are hoping to find a forever home for Manzana, but in the meantime, they’re showering her with all the love she deserves.

“She’s already gained weight since her rescue. She is not aggressive at all. She is very calm, loving, caring and gets along with other dogs,” Rosa said. “His little eyes are shining.”
