Dog rescued from life of cruelty has been in shelter for 3 years — still looking for a home

Imagine being rescued from an abusive home, and hoping you will finally find a new family to love you — only to be passed over for three whole years.

That’s the case for a dog named Lily, who has now spent most of her life waiting to be adopted. While it has been a long journey, her carers hope that the perfect home is out there somewhere…

Lily, a 5-year-old terrier/pit bull mix, has been in the care of the Pennsylvania SPCA for over three years, after being rescued from a life of cruelty by their Animal Law Enforcement in 2021.

Despite her heartbreaking past, the shelter says that Lily doesn’t let it hold her back and she “still has so much love to give.”

“She adores her stuffed toys and has the most infectious playful spirit,” the SPCA wrote. “She’s loyal, loving, and eager to learn alongside those who see beyond her shelter presence and into the heart of a faithful companion.”

Despite her many great qualities, no one has seemed interested in adopting Lily, and she has gone all these years without an adopter, making her the shelter’s second-longest resident.

The SPCA wrote that Lily has spent all these years watching people go past her kennel, never stopping to ask about her. Lily always “wakes up grateful for a second chance,” but dislikes being cooped up in her kennel, and longs to play and be outdoors.

Even though it has been a long time, the shelter holds out hope that there is someone out there who can give Lily the love she deserves. She needs to be the only pet in the household, but the SPCA writes that “she has so much love to give, you won’t need another.”

“Lily’s journey has been filled with ups and downs, yet she brings so much joy to every single heart she encounters,” the shelter wrote on Facebook. “Now she is ready to finally leave shelter life behind and find a family who will cherish her for the beautiful soul she is.”

If you are interested in adopting Lily, you can visit the Pennsylvania SPCA at 350 E Erie Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19134. Lily is in Kennel #3079. You can also find more information on her adoption page.
