Let’s not lie to ourselves – no matter how much we love them, and at the same time, idealize them, dogs are not at all naive creatures. They know very well how to do what is in their interest regardless of the consequences.

This is especially the case when it comes to food, and sometimes the dog will not choose the means to get to it and satisfy his belly. It can often lead to funny, almost hilarious situations, and that was the case this time as well. 

Namely, a Beagle mix had a source of food in the yard of his home in Minneapolis, Minnesota for a long time and truly enjoyed it. That was until the owner finally discovered what was happening and abruptly ended his joy.

The dog’s reaction is something you have to see.

Priceless Reaction

Erik Hane has long had a garden where he plants fresh vegetables and enjoys their fruits throughout the year. Yet, he is not the only one because there is also his Beagle mix, Nico, who, it will soon become clear, loves fresh tomatoes the most. 

Erik realized this when he noticed that his tomatoes were rapidly disappearing from the plant located on the ground of his garden. He soon learned that the main suspect was Nico, himself, and that’s why he decided to move the tomato plant to a raised flower bed. 

It wasn’t long before he heard loud barking coming from the garden. Given that Nico rarely barks in general, Erik knew that something had upset him, and he already guessed what it could be.

“I hear the dog barking at the top of his lungs and I come out to see what it is. He wants me to put the tomato plant back at a height where he can eat it some more. I hate him so much.” Erik wrote in X post where he also shared photos of the dog’s reaction. 

In the first photo, you can see Nico looking sadly at the plant that brought him so much joy and is now so far away. Already, in the second photo, we see his frustrated look at Erik, which says exactly: “How could you do this to me!?”

Nico was still very angry with Erik for a while, but after a few days, he realized that his favorite plant would not return to its old place, and he simply made peace with the new reality.

“He had given up on the dream a little bit,” Erik said in his interview.

Needless to say, Nico felt that his garden was no longer dog-friendly, at least not in the same way it had been before.

X Post Became Viral

Since Erik posted this reaction of Nico’s on X, not only did people in Minneapolis, Minnesota have the honor of seeing it, but from all over the world because the post went viral.

There were many reactions, and we decided to highlight some of them. 

“He is so cute I love him,” one user wrote. 

“sorry but hes right,” another added. 

And, the third demanded: “Give him a tomato!”

Yet, it should be emphasized that Erik still did a good thing, no matter how much some people in the comment section disagree. Dogs can consume tomatoes, but when they eat too many, it can become toxic to their bodies.

I think we all agree that Nico wouldn’t have been able to stop eating on his own if Erik hadn’t knocked the plant out of his paws. And, who knows what the consequences would have been…
