While kind people were driving in Fresno, California, they noticed a heartwrenching sight on the side of a road. There was an abandoned dog curled up in a ditch waiting for someone to help her.

The couple got out of the car and jumped to her aid. Once they approached the dog, they were surprised to see that she wasn’t alone.

Next to her, there was a little puppy who still hadn’t opened her eyes.

Since the couple were not locals, they couldn’t bring the dogs with them.

The good humans saw that the mother dog and her baby were cold and they spread blankets on the ground in order to keep them warm.

Mama Dog And Her Puppy Receive Help

The couple immediately notified the local rescue organization, which asked Fresno Humane Animal Services for help.

Priscilla Wolcott, an animal control officer at Fresno Humane Animal Services, responded to the call and headed straight to the location.

Upon her arrival, Wolcott began searching for the doggy family but couldn’t find them. 

Just when she became worried that she wouldn’t be able to rescue them, a mother dog, later named Momma Maisie, peeked out of the ditch.

Wolcott was overjoyed to see the doggo and her little days-old puppy curled up by her side.

“The puppy was really cold because it had been raining all night the night before,” Wolcott told  The Dodo.

Momma Maisie was glad to see Wolcott. The doggo trusted her and accepted her help from the very beginning. She let her rescuer load them into her car.

Before she drove them to the shelter, Wolcott searched the area but couldn’t find any other babies.

Fresno Humane Animal Services asked their rescue partners if anyone could take Momma Maisie and her pup into their care.

Fortunately, Friends of the Tracy Animal Shelter, a shelter in Tracy, California, offered to take the mother and her pup into their care and they sent a foster to pick them up.

Wolcott was happy for them. She knew that Momma Maisie went through a lot. While on the streets, the brave doggo took great care of her baby and made sure that she was safe.

An Amazing Transformation

Both Momma Maisie and Oreo needed a lot of care when they arrived in their foster home. The mother dog was malnourished and infested with multiple parasites.

She was put on a special high-protein diet.

Since Oreo was just days old, her foster had to tube-feed her and care for her around the clock.

Both the mama dog and her pup absorbed all the love they received in their foster home.

Momma Maisie and Oreo thrived more every day and felt grateful to their foster family for pampering them with care.

Weeks after their rescue, they blossomed into joyful dogs.

Oreo enjoyed her puppyhood and started displaying her personality. The shelter describes her as very “strong-willed”.

Momma Maisie reached a healthy weight.

Within a few weeks, Oreo will be ready for spaying, and shortly afterward, she and her mom will start searching for their forever homes.

After all the hardships they experienced alone on the side of the road, enduring hunger and freezing weather, they deserve to find their happy endings.
