As a doggo mom myself, just the thought of losing my sweet boy brings tears to my eyes.

Unfortunately, many doggo parents have experienced exactly that. One couple, in particular, was left devastated after their lovely Chihuahua named Penny went missing.

While on a relaxing walk one day with her parents, Liam and Kelly, Penny got spooked by a cyclist and ran away, not knowing how to get back to them.

The couple spent hours looking for her and made sure not to leave any rock unturned. Sadly, she was nowhere to be seen.

Rescue Mission

Not wanting to accept the fact that their sweet girl was gone, Liam and Kelly contacted a missing dog expert named Mandy Butler, of The Lost Dog Trapping Team who let them know that there was a high chance that Penny would return to the same place where she initially got lost.

Taking her advice, the couple decided to set up camp in the woods where they last saw their precious girl just in case she really did come back.

Butler also explained that when looking for your dog, it’s better to stay in one place than to spread your scent all over the place. This may confuse your pup!

And, since they knew how scared Penny got because of the cyclist, Liam and Kelly decided to give her some encouragement.

So, after they set up camp, they got the grill ready and started making her favorite food: sausages.

Hoping to coax her out of hiding, the couple spent five nights filling the air with the irresistible smell.

But, after five days of no luck, the worried doggo parents decided to relocate to a different part of town.

Never Going To Give You Up

As they were walking over there, Liam noticed Penny sitting all alone in the middle of a field.

Unfortunately, the pup was so scared that when he tried to approach her, she wasn’t able to recognize him so she quickly ran away.

After looking for her for a couple of days, they got in touch with a dog-trapping team that set up a couple of traps, hoping to find her.

Penny even found one of the traps but she managed to run away yet again.

“I was really despondent and losing hope,” Kelly told The Dodo.

Penny’s birthday rolled around, and the couple was absolutely devastated to know that she was out there somewhere all alone.

All of a sudden, their phone rang, and when they picked it up, they found out something absolutely incredible! A family had found Penny scratching at their front door, asking to be let in.

They suspect that she tried to find her way back home but she got confused and ended up at a home that looked almost identical to her own.

This was the best birthday gift anybody could have ever asked for! As soon as they got her home, Liam, who is the owner of a tattoo supply company, decided to get a tattoo of the pup surrounded by sausages as a way to celebrate her return!

And, of course, the happy parents grilled some sausages to welcome Penny back home. Who needs a birthday cake anyway?

“It was like Christmas. I just couldn’t sleep. I was so excited. [S]he got the zoomies. It was so cute. It’s like she was saying, ‘I finally got my sausage.’” Kelly concluded.
