When construction workers in Australia noticed a large animal strolling through the grass near their site, the crew couldn’t help but feel compassion for their wooly visitor.

“Affectionately known to the workers as ‘Jimmy,’ they kept a watchful eye over him as they went about their day,” Edgar’s Mission, a farm animal sanctuary, wrote in a video.

Jimmy, an adult male sheep, was in a busy area far from the usual paddocks he might call home. When Edgar’s Mission rescuers heard about Jimmy’s situation, they knew they needed to get the wayward sheep somewhere safe.

Jimmy feared humans, making his capture especially tricky. The rescue team hatched a plan. They just needed a group of volunteers and a friendly sheep named Kansas.

Rescuers put Kansas in a capture pen, hopeful that Jimmy would see a fellow sheep and come over. Their first attempt was a bust — Jimmy wasn’t interested. But they weren’t giving up.

The team tied Kansas to a tree and surrounded her with piles of hay. Then they waited. Finally, Jimmy’s curiosity got the best of him. Rescuers prepared to make a grab.

“We inched closer, hearts pounding,” Edgar’s mission wrote. “With Kansas and our makeshift net in place, we made our leap of faith!”

In a flash, rescuers secured Jimmy in their arms.

“We whispered, ‘You’re safe now, buddy, you’re going to Edgar’s Mission,” the rescue wrote.

Edgar’s Mission volunteers decided Jimmy needed a new name that honored his amazing story. They decided on Unity, as a reminder of the teamwork required to bring him to safety.

Now resting comfortably at Edgar’s Mission, Unity has everything he needs to ensure a life of stability, happiness and love.
