As a small bakery owner in Argentina, Daiana Chavez loves nothing more than feeding her community freshly baked bread and desserts. She’s made countless friends and valued customers throughout the years, but one of her favorite visitors isn’t a human at all — he’s a dog named Mateo, obsessed with being Chavez’s final customer each day.
“I’m closing the shop, and it’s not even going to take Mateo two minutes to come. Every time he hears me closing the shades, he appears,” Chavez said in a TikTok.
Every night, within seconds of pulling down the shop’s security screen for closing, Mateo not only appears at the door — he bolts through it and sits patiently for his treat.
“What would you like, Mateo? What do we have left over?” Chavez says to Mateo as she combs over a basket of surplus bread.
Chavez plucks a roll from the basket and hands it to Mateo, who gently receives it and trots outside to enjoy his snack.

After posting the TikTok of Mateo demanding treats, Chavez’s followers worried he might be a street dog needing more care than just a piece of bread. But Chavez soon posted a relieving update with more information.
“Don’t worry, everyone. Mateo is not a street dog. He is adopted; rescued, actually,” Chavez said in a TikTok. “He was abandoned, and my neighbor adopted him. He’s very well cared-for and spoiled. He has his home here, next to the bakery, and a brother named Rocco.”
Despite showing up hungry, Mateo isn’t neglected by any means. In fact, with a bakery full of his favorite ladies right next to his house, Mateo receives more attention than most dogs.
“He is a love. He is so spoiled by the girls here at the bakery,” Chavez said. “We pet him and feed him when he comes to visit us. He’s very obedient and grateful.”
Mateo can’t get enough of Chavez’s delicious bread and usually sneaks back inside the bakery after his first snack to retrieve another. Sadly, Mateo is limited to only a few baked goods daily due to his health. But what Mateo can’t get in baked goods, Chavez makes up for with cuddles.
“Mateo, we love you so much,” Chavez said.
