During a freezing day in East St. Louis, a pup named Adobe was roaming the area, feeling sorrowful and lost.
He badly needed a warm shelter and some food to satisfy his hunger, but he didn’t know where to go.
As he walked on the ground covered with snow and ice, his paws started turning red and he trembled with cold.
The more the time passed, the worse he felt. Since Adobe sensed that he wasn’t going to make it on his own, he decided to ask humans for help.
He chose a random house, hoping that its tenants would show him compassion and kindness.
A Heartbreaking Cry For Help
Adobe started circling the house and whining desperately, begging the people to let him in.
The teenage girls who were at home at the time heard his cries and felt so sad for him.
They opened the door and let Adobe into their garage. They wrapped him in blankets and gave him their dogs’ toys so that he could play.
Adobe felt grateful because the girls showed him kindness. He stopped crying and his heart sparkled with hope. He knew that he had chosen the right house.
The girls’ mom contacted Gateway Pet Guardians, a shelter in East St. Louis, and told them that the pup showed himself at their door.
Jill, the director of operations at the rescue, went to their house and picked him up.
She noticed that Adobe had a nice harness and he was a clean dog, which led her to believe that he was someone’s dog.
It was clear that Adobe spent some time on his own. When she put him in her van, he couldn’t stop trembling.
“When I got him into the van, he was shivering really, really hard. His face, extremities, like his feet were really, really red, probably approaching something like frostbite,” Jill told GeoBeats Animals.
Although Jill worked at the rescue for many years, she had never seen a dog who was so cold.
She brought Adobe to the shelter and took him to the vet where he was examined. Apart from being slightly underweight, Adobe was in good health.
The Pup Shows His Loving Disposition
The day after he was admitted to the shelter, the staff brought him to the office. Adobe delighted them with his disposition.
He jumped around the office, wagging his tail. The staff members could tell that Adobe was so grateful that he was rescued.
The dog also showed his affectionate nature. He nuzzled into his new human friends, absorbing all the cuddles they gave him.
The staff believed that he once had a loving home and that he somehow got lost. Sadly, after they scanned him for a microchip, they found out that he didn’t have one.
The shelter staff was determined to do everything they could to reunite Adobe with his owner. They hung flyers and posted about him on lost and found sites, but to no avail.
As the pup continues to decompress and get used to his new surroundings, his past remains a mystery.
However, the shelter knows one thing for sure… Adobe is a true love bug.
“What we do know is that he’s an absolute love bug with the biggest, most charming head and an irresistibly handsome face that melts your heart,” the shelter wrote on Facebook.
Since nobody came forward and claimed Adobe, the shelter decided to find him a foster home and a forever home where he would continue thriving.
As much as Adobe enjoys the attention that the staff gives him, he hopes that he will soon meet his forever family and start the happiest chapter of his life.
