3 Puppies Rescued From Dumpster: Animal Rescue Seeks Justice

A heart-wrenching incident in Sioux Falls has animal rescue advocates rallying for justice after three newborn puppies were found abandoned in a dumpster.

Thanks to the quick actions of a good Samaritan, these vulnerable pups, now named Bo, Birdie, and Brody, have a fighting chance at life.

The puppies, estimated to be just 10 days old, were rescued and are now in foster care under the watchful care of Almost Home Canine Rescue.

While their survival is no longer at risk, the organization is determined to find the person responsible for their abandonment and ensure they face legal consequences.

From Desperation to Safety

Katie Day, founder of Almost Home Canine Rescue, shared details about the puppies’ harrowing start. “I was told a good Samaritan found them in or next to a dumpster on Kiwanis Avenue here in Sioux Falls,” she said.

The puppies were cold, helpless, and too young to survive without constant care. They are now being bottle-fed and monitored by a dedicated foster family. Despite the challenges, Day remains optimistic about their recovery.

“They are a lot of work,” she explained. “They require constant feedings, daily weigh-ins, and even stimulation to help them go potty. But they’re in good hands, and I believe they’re going to make it.”

Seeking Justice for Bo, Birdie, and Brody

Day has been rescuing dogs for over seven years and is determined to bring justice for these three pups. She emphasized that abandoning them in freezing temperatures was both senseless and cruel.

“Somebody knows something,” Day urged. “Someone knows a friend or family member who had puppies.”

She is calling on the community to help identify the person responsible, as abandoning these puppies not only caused unnecessary suffering but could have led to their death if not for the good Samaritan who found them in time.

A Plea for Compassion

Day’s message is clear: there is no need to let animals suffer when rescue organizations like Almost Home Canine Rescue are willing to help.

“There’s no point in making puppies suffer,” she said. “If this good Samaritan hadn’t found these puppies, their fate would have been death. It’s too cold for a human being to be outside right now, let alone newborn puppies.”

Almost Home Canine Rescue is asking anyone with information about the puppies or their abandonment to contact local law enforcement.

Bo, Birdie, and Brody are now safe, but their story highlights the importance of community involvement in preventing animal cruelty.
