Cops Rush To Help ‘Trapped’ Dog But Uncover The Real Situation

Last month, a call came in at The Village Police Department in Oklahoma about a local dog who’d apparently gotten herself into a bit of trouble. According to the dog’s family, she’d managed to crawl under a shed on their property, and they were unable to get her out.

“It isn’t a call we would normally respond to, but we weren’t busy at that time, so we chose to go try and help,” Police Lieutenant Green told The Dodo. “[The family’s] main concern was the safety of the dog.”

But, it turns out, Bella wasn’t exactly in peril.

Arriving to the scene, Green and his partner could hear Bella barking from underneath the shed. There was something curious about the bark, however.

“I recognized the sound the dog was making was not the sound of distress,” Green said. “But the sound of excitement.”

Seeing no other option, and with the permission of Bella’s family, Green and his partner used a hammer and crowbar to peel up the floor to grab the dog. That’s when they discovered that she actually had company.

Beneath the floor, Green found that Bella was barking at an opossum who’d crawled under there, too.

“We were able to separate them and let the opossum go unharmed,” Green said.

With great effort, Bella had been “rescued” — but she wasn’t particularly grateful for it.

“She didn’t care that we were there, she still wanted the opossum,” Green said. “She seemed disappointed when we let it go.”

Bella’s expression while posing with the cops who’d saved her says it all:

The little dog might have been upset that others didn’t take the opossum “threat” as seriously as she did, but the cops were happy to help regardless.

“It was nice to deal with a call like this and get to be the good guys by helping Bella’s parents,” Green said. “Getting to help the owners, save the opossum and laugh some made our night and helped remind us that, while we deal with many things that aren’t fun, sometimes we get to have some success and be the good guys.”
