A few years ago, a little Romanian dog named Tycho found himself stuck in a hopeless situation. He was hit by a car, abandoned by the driver and injured so badly he couldn’t move his legs or tail.
Stuck in a muddy ditch by the side of the road, Tycho lay helplessly as car after car drove by. He wondered if anyone would notice or help him.
Finally, someone did. Elisa Dumitrescu, a rescuer with Do Good Romania, picked him up, took him home and brought him to the vet.
It was difficult to tell what was wrong with him, at first. The doctors suspected he had a herniated disc and started trying to encourage him to stand up on his own. But everyone knew it was a long shot.
“He wasn’t responding to treatment the first week, so I assumed he would never walk again,” Dumitrescu told The Dodo.
But then, overnight, everything changed.
After nine days of treatment, Tycho’s tail started to wag.
From there, his recovery started to gain momentum.
“Once he had that initial spark of movement in his tail, he progressed pretty quickly,” Dumitrescu said.
No one expected Tycho’s future to be bright. But thanks to the vet’s care and Dumitrescu’s love, within a matter of weeks, Tycho was walking, wiggling around and even jumping up and down.

Do Good Romania transfers dogs to loving homes in the UK. So once Tycho was feeling completely better, he was moved to his new home and got to meet his permanent family.
Now, Tycho is enjoying his new life with his parents and dog sibling. He goes on long walks, plays with other dogs — and even chases after them.
