“I trust him with everything I have, with my life,” Mike shared with the Today Show when interviewed about his military dog reunion. “You have to because these are our partners.”
Before retiring, John worked as an explosive detection dog, playing a crucial role in spotting dangerous situations. When Sergeant Alcala was transferred to a new assignment, John had to stay behind to continue his important duties.
Mike was determined that their story wasn’t over. After John completed ten years of honorable service, it was finally time for him to retire and reunite with his soldier companion.
This heartfelt reunion took place following John’s official retirement ceremony from the military, where he was honored for his service. During the event, John happily played with a chew toy.
Once he was flown back home, John was brought to Mike’s backyard. The moment they saw each other was filled with joy and excitement. Mike greeted John with hugs and belly rubs, and it was clear that both were overjoyed to be together again.
