Last month, dog rescuer Suzette Hall received a heart-stopping text from a Good Samaritan in the Los Angeles, California, area. The person reported finding a small black-and-white dog on the side of the road who was alert but seemingly injured from being hit by a car.
Hall, the founder and director of Logan’s Legacy 29, dropped everything and raced to the dog’s location. When she got there and saw the poor pup trying to move around to no avail, she knew time was of the essence to save her.
“She is definitely in shock,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “Rescue is hard. It’s sad and scary, but I have to be their voice.”
The worried rescuer carefully scooped the pup into her arms and then drove straight to her local veterinary clinic for a comprehensive checkup. She named the pup Inky on the way to the vet and quickly started to fall in love with the sweet girl.
Word spread in the community about Inky’s rescue, and within 24 hours, they’d located the sweet pup’s dad. He rushed to the vet when he heard about Inky, whose real name was Tulum, and broke down as soon as he saw her condition.
“She is all her owner has in the whole world … she is his life,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “He and I cried together and hugged. My heart couldn’t be more broken seeing his broken heart.”
While Tulum’s dad was relieved to see his precious girl after being lost for some time, he worried about her health and impending medical bills. At the time of her rescue, Tulum seemed to be paralyzed from the neck down, which would require extensive testing and treatment.
Tulum’s dad wanted to save his baby desperately, but he couldn’t afford the MRI and surgery she needed. That’s when Hall stepped in to help. She crowd-sourced donations from her followers and soon raised enough money to cover Tulum’s medical expenses.
While she had a long road of recovery ahead, Tulum’s demeanor improved after seeing her dad that first day.
“Her little eyes looking up at her daddy was all it took to see hope in her eyes,” Hall wrote on Facebook.
On November 6, 2024, Tulum finally underwent surgery to address her physical injuries from the crash. The surgery was successful, and with the help of physical therapy and laser treatment, Tulum finally started regaining her movement. Her rescuer and caregivers were hopeful.
“Sweet baby girl is responding so well to her physical therapy and laser treatment,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “She is even responding with feeling in her back legs. I am truly believing in a Christmas miracle.”
Tulum recovered at the clinic for the next few weeks until she was finally strong enough to return home to her dad. When he arrived to pick her up over a month after her accident, the tiny, resilient girl nearly lost it from excitement.
“She couldn’t get back in his arms fast enough,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “Tulum and her daddy are back together.”
You can watch their emotional reunion here:
After their heartfelt reunion, Tulum and her dad sauntered out of the veterinary clinic arm in arm. They were delighted to be together again, and Hall was grateful to have been part of it all.
“SHE IS A MIRACLE,” Hall wrote. “I literally can’t stop crying.”
