Moogan doesn’t wear a cape, nor is he trained to save lives, and yet he is a hero!
This 11-year-old blind American Pit Bull mix recently made headlines after his outstanding act prevented his rescue volunteer from being fatally hurt by a rattlesnake.
Despite his blindness, Moogan proved that no disability could stop him from being a true companion to his hooman.
Here’s what happened!
Moogan Is The Hero Of The Day
It was a day like any other for Dan Fishbein, a volunteer at Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah. He was on his morning shift at the sanctuary, taking Moogan out for his daily walk.
This daily ritual began the moment Moogan arrived at the facility. At first, he was way overstimulated by outings and was an extreme puller on walks. However, over time, he learned how to behave just right.
Despite the fact that Moogan’s vision started to deteriorate due to SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome), he was still able to walk and enjoy all kinds of activities with his caregivers.
Little did they know that his enthusiasm would be a life-saver for Fishbein!
During their walk on the main dog trail, Moogan suddenly began to act strangely. He was fiercely pulling to the right, which made his caregiver look down and spot a well-camouflaged rattlesnake on the ground.
“We were walking along and Moogan sort of turns to the right and I’m walking, and I look down to my right foot and there is a rattlesnake all curled up. In my defense, pretty well camouflaged,” Fishbein said in the BFAS video.
Fishbein immediately moved himself and Moogan away, avoiding what could have easily been a fatal accident. Yet, this Utah volunteer couldn’t stop thinking of the fact that it was a blind dog who had just saved his life.
“I kind of pulled Moogan away and thanked him, because I could have easily walked right into that snake… I take a lot of dogs out, but it was the blind one that sort of warned me about this snake” Fishebein added.
It didn’t take long until Moogan’s heroic act made headlines, showing how truly a brilliant dog he is. Dan, on the other hand, couldn’t be more thankful.
The rattlesnake was later safely captured by the staff snake handler and relocated.
Still Waiting For A Forever Home
Despite Moogan’s heroism, this senior doggo is still waiting for the right family. He’s looking forward to enjoying his golden years in a nice home, entertaining his future owner with his playful spirit.
Moogan still has a lot to give, and he doesn’t shy away from any sort of adventure. He may be eleven, but his behavior definitely speaks for itself.
“Moogan was an outgoing, playful dog from the moment he arrived at the Sanctuary, and there wasn’t a bit of hesitation when it came to fun things. He made friends quickly and loved having all sorts of toys to throw around,” BFAS wrote on Facebook.
For now, Moogan will remain true to his rescue until his ideal adoption candidates show up.
Hopefully, it won’t be too long until Moogan settles down in a suitable home, finally learning what it feels like to be loved by a family. After everything he has been through, including his latest rattlesnake warning, he definitely deserves it!
Good luck, Moogan!
