Working in an animal shelter is not an easy job by any means. It comes with many challenges and sometimes these organizations run into some problems.

Smaller shelters sometimes take in more animals than they can care for and this immediately causes problems like lack of food. 

Sometimes, dogs who live in crowded shelters will occasionally struggle because taking care of them is just really hard for the rescuers. That isn’t necessarily wrong, because they are still trying to help.

However, what is not okay is how this sweet dog spent a long time in a small shelter where he was abused and neglected by other people. 

These people did not have any interest in helping dogs at all and that is just so wrong. Luckily, he was transferred to another facility where he could receive the help he deserved.

Tori’s Struggle

When Tori was first taken into a nicer shelter where people actually care about dogs, he just couldn’t trust anyone.

He was completely frozen in fear and his rescuers were heartbroken by what he went through. Tori was just the sweetest pup who didn’t ever do anything to deserve this treatment.

No matter what his rescuers did at first, Tori was unresponsive. He would try to avoid any physical contact from the shelter workers, not knowing that they just wanted to help.

Regardless, his amazing rescuers continued helping him and this led to a small improvement. They noticed that he was gradually more interested in seeing people.

There was a small glimmer of trust and they knew that this was the right way to proceed. There was even a little tail wag, which is always a good sign.

This was all great, but even the shelter workers knew that being here for too long was not going to help Tori heal. They needed a new plan.

Tori’s Transformation

One of the rescuers took him into her house so he could experience what it’s like to live in a loving home with someone who cares about him.

At first, he was withdrawn and rarely ever left his kennel, but that would change slowly. After about 2 months, he slept next to his rescuer. This was amazing progress.

This would continue to happen. Tori was becoming a lot more relaxed and he started to act more like a dog who was happy and loved.

His mood and behavior changed drastically and he started to enjoy his life. His rescuer would take him for walks and they would play regularly.

After about 5 months, he was a completely transformed dog. His weight had also gone up and it looked like he was finally happy to be with someone special.

Even though his journey had been a rough one, it’s thanks to these amazing people that he was able to find his way. He gets to live happily ever after with a person who deeply cares about him.
