Shelter Pittie Has Sweetest Sign On Her Kennel Asking For A Little Help

Lunch Lady was found wandering around the Louisiana SPCA, and it took the efforts of several staff members to finally catch her.

“She was not microchipped, so there was no owner we could contact,” Jessyca Sulfsted, marketing and communications manager at Louisiana SPCA, told The Dodo. “She was examined by our veterinarian and treated for minor medical issues. After a few days, she was not claimed, so she was microchipped, vaccinated and ready for adoption. She got her name due to her being such a lady and catching her around lunchtime.”

Despite her hesitation about being rescued, Lunch Lady was nothing but sweet once she was safely in the care of the shelter. She was a little bit shy but overall a cuddly, gentle soul. She seemed more than ready for her forever home — there was just one thing she needed some help with.

Lunch Lady has likely never had a home before, so walking on a leash is something that’s completely foreign to her, and also a little scary.

“We knew pretty quickly that she was going to need some help,” Sulfsted said.

To remind the staff and volunteers at the shelter that Lunch Lady was not yet a leash-walking expert, a sign was placed on her kennel that read, “Hi, I need help learning to walk on a leash.” That way, whoever was taking her out of her kennel would know she needed help practicing this new skill.

At first, Lunch Lady walked on a leash as if she was in a spy movie. With the help of all her new friends, though, she’s getting better every day.

“She has shown so much improvement, and we’re confident she will be a pro very soon,” Sulfsted said.

Lunch Lady’s ideal home is with a family who will encourage her to keep learning and exploring in a safe way. She also requires lots and lots of snuggles — which is hopefully a pretty easy ask.
