When Clay saw Tappie for the first time, she was eating garbage near one of his job sites in North Georgia.
Workers threw scraps of food to the dog, but nobody could get close to her. She was skittish and she avoided interacting with people.
Clay started bringing her treats several times a week, wishing to build trust with her and get her off the streets.
Although Tappie was grateful to Clay for his kindness and compassion, she was cautious with him and kept her distance.
Earning Tappie’s Trust
The kind man continued leaving food for Tappie. He sat on the ground, talked to her in a gentle voice, and called her to approach him.
Gradually, the doggo began realizing that she could trust Clay. She started getting close to him, but since she was still a bit unsure, she refused to come up to him.
However, one day, she approached the big-hearted man, ate a treat from his hand, and lay down by his side.
Tappie showed him that she truly trusted him. Clay lay down next to her and gave her many cuddles, feeling happy to have finally won her heart.
The doggo melted with love and at that moment, Clay knew that he was taking her home.
He gently picked her up and put her in his truck.
As soon as she moved in with Clay and his fiancée, Jenny, the doggo felt safe. Her heart was filled with gratitude towards her caregivers.
The Doggo’s Backstory
Tappie sensed that things were starting to look up and it didn’t take her long to reveal her loving disposition.
“She opened up really quickly. Within a couple days she started cuddling with us on the bed,” Jenny told GeoBeats Animals.
The couple took Tappie to the vet where she was checked. The pup was diagnosed with a couple of medical issues and put on medication.
She had no microchip.
Since the couple learned from the vet that Tappie was spayed, they believed that the dog used to have owners.
Jenny started searching through shelter websites and Facebook pages and came across a photo of Tappie taken a month before her fiancé met the pup.
They felt heartbroken when they found out that the doggo had been adopted for a short time and then neglected.
“She is one of the sweetest, smartest souls I’ve ever met, and it breaks my heart knowing she was once neglected,” Jenny wrote on Instagram.
Tappie Becomes The Happiest Girl
Clay and Jenny built a strong bond with Tappie and decided to keep her forever.
The couple will get married in June of 2025 and they want the lovely pup to be the heart of their family.
“We love Tappie. We love spending time with her and we just want her to be a part of our family,” Clay told GeoBeats Animals.
Once a scared and neglected pup, Tappie became a healthy and happy dog who is living her best life in North Georgia. Her parents adore her and the pup relishes every moment she spends cuddling with them.
Tappie has her own Instagram and TikTok account where she and her beloved mom like sharing updates about her everyday life.
Thank you to Clay for investing so much time in building trust with the pup and for restoring her faith in humanity. Tappie is lucky to have such amazing parents.
