After owner falls and injures hip, loyal golden retriever saves the day, gets help

Dogs are such loyal and caring animals. We’ve seen so many stories of dogs staying by their owner’s side when they needed them most.

That was the case recently, when a golden retriever helped his owner when he suffered a hip injury.

According to a post from the Ross/West View Emergency Medical Services Authority, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, EMS crews responded after a man fell 20 feet down a hill and sustained a serious hip injury.

Thankfully, the man had his loyal golden retriever with him at the time, who stepped up to save the day.

According to the post, the dog alerted neighbors that his owner was injured. He then stayed by the man’s side, refusing to leave until he was safe.

The EMS crews arrived on the scene, stabilized the victim and treated him for pain and trauma. They then used a rope system to lift him back up the hill in a basket. The man was then transported to a local trauma center.

His dog was reportedly “rewarded with some treats and big bowl of water on this hot day!” Ross West View EMSA wrote on Facebook.

The department also thanked Ross Police, Ross DPW, Laurel Garden and Berkeley Hills Fire for their “amazing team work.”

The story inspired many people online, especially the loyal golden retriever.

“Everything about this was amazing, including the dog that obviously was not trained to do this, but for the love of his person, he did it anyway!!” one person wrote on Facebook. “I have a guide dog that has saved me more times than I wish to count. The dogs are amazing!!!”

“Our pets teach us humans to love,” another wrote. “Pets are so loving, forgiving, sensitive to our moods, full of compassion and determination but remember when we do it wrong. We have always had pets and I find them to be super intelligent. Smarter than a lot of humans.”

“Great job by all! The hero is the wonderful dog!”

“Wishing the gentleman a speedy recovery. Beautiful dog deserves lots of treats and belly rubs.”

We’re so glad this man is safe and recovering, thanks to the responders and to his loyal dog! ❤️
