Devoted Rescue Dog Refuses To Let His Blind Dad Out Of His Sight

It was a rainy day in rural Kentucky when Adonis and Titan, two abandoned bully mixes, found themselves searching for shelter. The homeless father-and-son duo were quickly losing hope when they stumbled upon a promising house.

The homeowner soon noticed the desperate dogs at her door, and when she went to greet them, they immediately made their way inside.

“They were found starving, weak and wandering in rural Kentucky, when they took shelter from a rainstorm in the home of a kind woman who opened her door,” Blind Dog Rescue Alliance (BDRA) wrote on their website.

Jennifer Hill

It wasn’t long before the woman realized just how much the dogs were relying on each other.

“Adonis is suspected to be around 9-10 years old, blind and the father of Titan,” BDRA wrote. “Titan, closer to 3 years old, was helping his dad survive as best he could and stayed loyally by his side.”

A local animal shelter arrived shortly after to pick the dogs up, and the staff and volunteers instantly fell in love with the duo. Sadly, the shelter didn’t have enough space for Adonis and Titan to stay, so BDRA offered to help find them a foster home.

Despite their physical ailments — including broken teeth and scars on their legs — and their shared timidity about people touching their heads, Adonis and Titan showed signs of having had a loving family at some point in their lives. BDRA knew they would thrive in foster care as long as they went together.

“They love each other very much and get very worried when they are separated,” BDRA wrote. “They often sleep in the same (very large) dog bed together. They are very bonded.”

Luckily, BDRA found the perfect foster home for the pups. Jennifer Hill, the dogs’ foster mom, welcomed the boys in with open arms, and they were delighted to join her family.

“They take turns cuddling,” Hill told The Dodo. “They are so sweet and goofy. They make me laugh every day! They are just so happy about life.”

While Adonis and Titan remained just as bonded in their foster home, they soon grew familiar enough with their surroundings to explore without each other.

“Titan used to never let Adonis out of his sight, but he’s a little more relaxed now that they know they are safe,” Hill said. “He can play with a toy outside without wondering where Adonis is.”

Jennifer Hill

The boys have gained a newfound sense of independence now that Adonis can navigate his foster home on his own, but they still don’t like to stray too far from each other.

“When Titan got sprayed by a skunk a couple of weeks ago, and we had to separate them to bathe Titan, Adonis howled the entire time,” Hill said. “And when Adonis ran outside in a rainstorm to potty last week, Titan stood at the door worrying until Adonis came back.”

Jennifer Hill

It’s safe to say that Titan will always look out for his dad, and Adonis will continue to feel most comfortable by his son’s side. But now that the boys know what a warm, loving home is like, they’ll never feel that anxiety of only having each other to lean on again.

“Adonis and Titan have seen hard times, but they don’t hold any grudges,” BDRA wrote. “These two are ready to find someone with bully-breed experience who appreciates the bully personality and quirks, and is ready to welcome the sometimes slobbery, but always enthusiastic zest for life these two are offering!”
