Preparing to open for the day, a clinic staffer at the Pennsylvania SPCA recently noticed something unusual. There was a small pink crate abandoned outside the shelter, topped with a note scrawled on a sheet of lined paper.
“I love them so much,” read part of the note. “Please take care of them and find them a nice home.”
The staffer’s gaze soon met two pairs of sad eyes staring up from beneath the note. Bella and Bobby, a tiny dog duo, cowered in the crate underneath.
Pennsylvania SPCAThe concerned staffer took Bella and Bobby into the shelter and set them up with food, water and comfortable bedding. Soon, news of Bella and Bobby swept the SPCA.
“Everyone who read Bella and Bobby’s note had the same reaction — how sad and horrible to have to give up your dogs,” a representative from the Pennsylvania SPCA told The Dodo. “Unfortunately, it is something that seems to be happening more and more.”
Luckily, Bella and Bobby didn’t have to worry about being alone anymore. They quickly adapted to life at the shelter, happy to have each other to lean on.
“They have funny little personalities,” the representative said. “While they were scared at first, when they warmed up to our staff, all they wanted was to be in laps. They also wanted to always be together. We could tell immediately that they were bonded and should not be separated.”
In time, Bella and Bobby were transferred to Envi Dog Rescue and Sanctuary. Safe at the sanctuary, the pair are meeting lots of friends, waiting for the right person to come along and adopt them into their new family.
