While enjoying a calm evening at home, Amber Pudik and her son noticed posts in their doorbell camera’s app about stray pups wandering around their street.
Pudik and her son rushed outside to see if the dogs were still there.
As soon as they went outside, two sweet Blue Heelers ran toward Pudik’s son to greet him.
The mother and son lured the friendly dogs into their fenced-in backyard in order to make sure that they were safe.
The two strays were happy because someone received them with kindness.
Bonding With The Dogs
Thinking that the dogs belonged to someone, the big-hearted woman posted to many local Facebook groups for lost pets. She hoped that someone would recognize the dogs.
A local animal rescue contacted her, offering to come over and check the dogs for a microchip.
“So they actually came over within like 30 minutes of me finding the dogs to scan them for microchips — and they were not chipped,” Pudik told PEOPLE.
The adorable pups stayed at Pudik’s home since their local animal control, Illinois Tazewell County, was shut down for the weekend.
The two stray pups, later named Bandit and Bingo, enjoyed spending time with Pudik and her son who gave them a lot of cuddles which they badly needed. The pups were overjoyed and they couldn’t stop smiling.
The Pudik family bonded with the dogs and saying goodbye to them was extremely hard.
On Monday morning, before he went to school, Pudik’s son hugged the dogs. As he walked to the bus stop, the boy’s eyes became filled with tears. He thought that he would never see the dogs again.
Pudik, a true animal lover, cried, too, after she surrendered the dogs to Tazewell County Animal Control.
“… That morning, my son was getting ready for school and before he got on the bus, he gave [the dogs] big hugs and was teary-eyed as he was walking down to the bus stop. When animal control picked the dogs up from me, I burst out into tears,” Pudik added.
The Dogs Move To A Shelter
Animal control put the dogs on a five-day stray hold and posted about them on their Facebook group, but nobody reached out.
Pudik regularly checked up on the stray dogs. She learned that Bandit was diagnosed with parvovirus and that both dogs had to be quarantined before they could start searching for their forever homes.
Bandit had to stay at the hospital for some time, but luckily, he was getting better.
Pudik missed the dogs and she couldn’t stop thinking about them. After she talked to her husband, they decided to adopt Bingo.
The couple who already had two dogs, Nash and Ranger, were convinced that they could take care of another dog. They knew that they had a lot of love to give him.
The animal control wanted to adopt the two Blue Heelers separately because they were not a bonded pair.
The Most Memorable Surprise
Pudik planned out a perfect surprise for her son, the one she hoped he would remember forever.
She filled out the adoption paperwork and after the quarantine period ended, she brought Bingo home.
When Pudik’s son saw the pup, he was shocked. At first, he got worried for their dog, Ranger, and thought that his family had replaced him with the new puppy.
As soon as the boy found out that Ranger was safe, he rushed to hug Bingo. While he was cuddling him, the boy asked the pup if he remembered him.
Bingo was over the moon to be reunited with his friend and the rest of the family.
Nash and Ranger welcomed the puppy into the family. The three doggy brothers love each other deeply and they get along perfectly.
Bingo lives his dream life with his family in Washington, Illinois. He finally has a loving home that he has always dreamed of.
Pudik mentioned in the comments on her TikTok that a few of her friends were interested in adopting Bandit, so we all hope that he, too, will find his forever home very soon.
