Mastiff was thrown into lake and left to drown — rescue leads to a happy ending

A Florida dog was thrown into a lake and left to drown — but now his heartbreaking story has a happy ending 🙏

Last month, Mastiff Rescue of Florida, Inc. shared the heartbreaking story of a dog now named Gator, who was cruelly thrown into a lake and left to drown.

Thankfully, Gator was rescued in time by a Good Samaritan, and Mastiff Rescue of Florida stepped in to save him. The poor dog suffered from pneumonia, and was taken to the ER for treatment.

He was then taken in by a foster parent named Amber, who said that recovered from his pneumonia and was “leaps and bounds” from where he was found.

“He has some separation anxiety now that he knows what it is to be loved in but crates well and no longer tries to escape!” his foster said, according to a Facebook post last month. “He is an extremely sweet boy and absolutely loves meeting new people.”

Then, in an update on October 2, Mastiff Rescue of Florida announced that Gator has a “wonderful new home”!

Gator was taken in by a foster named Travis, who recently lost his own pet mastiff Nora Ann, and the two quickly hit it off perfectly.

“Gator moved into Travis’s home like he belonged there, he became friends with the other dog and started playing, loved all the comfy dog beds, lounging by the pool, getting in bed with Travis, all the good food. Gator has the life he deserves..LOTS OF LOVE!” the rescue wrote.

It was clear the two were perfect for each other, and the rescue wrote that it was like Travis’ late dog sent Gator to him. “We all think Nora Ann had lots to do with directing Gator’s way to Travis. When Travis went to meet Gator it was like they had been together, the bond was immediate.”

Mastiff Rescue of Florida wrote that Gator is receiving heartworm treatments and will be neutered in a month. “He went through hell and we want his immune system built up and healthy!” they wrote.

It’s unbelievable that anyone would throw this beautiful dog into a lake and leave him to die, but we’re so glad he was rescued and now has a perfect new home 🙏❤️
