Sad Dog Spends Over 700 Days At Shelter Watching All His Friends Get Adopted While He’s Overlooked

No one has told Hashbrown that being in the shelter for so long is no fault of his own, and that just breaks my heart.

This amazing Pittie mix is the epitome of a perfect dog. He’s kind, doesn’t bark too much, loves to play, is all about humans, and is definitely an all-time companion.

Sadly, due to the Pitbull Ban in the state of Arkansas, he is constantly overlooked in his kennel – just because of his breed.

In October 2024, Hashbrown will celebrate the two-year milestone of being a shelter dog…and he couldn’t be more heartbroken.

All He Wants Is A Family

Hashbrown arrived at Sherwood Humane Animal Shelter, in Sherwood, Arkansas, on October 14, 2022. Ever since his rescue, this black-and-white boy has been nothing but the sweetest lovebug.

“He’s been at the shelter since October 14, 2022, and that’s such a long time to be without a home. He most likely gets overlooked because he is very quiet, doesn’t bark, he isn’t one to say ‘Hey! tail wag, tail wag, jump, jump look at me!’,” says his adoption profile.

Sadly, his breed – a Pitbull mix – doesn’t do him any favors.

All of his potential adopters keep overlooking him due to the Pitbull ban in the state he’s located in, which has turned out to be a real nightmare.

Instead of settling down in a nice, cozy home, Hashbrown is forced to sit in a small kennel and watch all his friends get adopted.

Still, even the saddest turn of events like his isn’t enough to lessen Hashbrown’s cute smile. He’s a natural lover, always ready to play and meet new friends – despite what his breed is perceived to be.

“If we got to re-name Hashbrown we would name him Goodest because he is the goodest boy ever,” his profile adds.

Susan, one of the volunteers who helps Hashbrown with his daily outings, is a firsthand witness to his incredible demeanor.

On his 600-day milestone at the Arkansas shelter, she posted a heartbreaking video of Hashbrown lying in his tiny kennel on his favorite blankie, looking at passersby with the saddest eyes.

“Over 600 days and nights stuck in a kennel. Poor Hashbrown. It’s not fair at all! He needs a hero ASAP,” Susan wrote in the video.

Still Waiting

The SHAS team truly hopes that Hashbrown’s adopters are near.

Every new day of his prolonged stay in the shelter is just heartbreaking and does him no good. The shelter environment, while safe, is a stressful place for dogs, despite how naturally sweet and well-behaved their nature could be.

Hashbrown still holds onto hope that his wait isn’t in vain.

He’s already microchipped, neutered, and up-to-date on all vaccinations.

His ideal home would be a house with a spacious yard and a secure six-foot fence, free of smaller pets, and possibly with a female dog. However, I’m absolutely confident that Hashbrown would thrive as the only pet as well.

He can’t wait to meet and greet his potential owners at the shelter, so hurry!
