Many people do not have a true picture of what our furry friends go through. The problem is that they only see happy dogs with good owners who take them for a daily walk through the city streets.
Sadly, the reality is much different from what it seems. The residents of Natchitoches, Louisiana, were able to see that with their own eyes when they came upon two dogs that were living in the neighborhood.
The situation was so dire that they had no choice but to call the police.
“Horrifying”
According to their Facebook post, the Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office in Louisiana was informed about two very neglected dogs a few days before they wrote this post.
“On Friday afternoon, August 23, 2024, at approximately 7:15pm, Deputies assigned to the NPSO Patrol Operations Bureau responded to a complaint of alleged animal neglect in the 100 block of Pecan Court in Cedar Grove Sub-division, near Natchitoches, La.” they wrote.
They stated that in the complaint, people said that the dogs were so malnourished that they were “horrifying” to look at.
Deputies immediately rushed to the place to see for themselves, and when they arrived, they saw that the situation was even worse than they thought.
They found two malnourished Pit Bulls“chained to a fence with their ribs and spine areas showing with no food or water supply.”
“The dogs appeared weak, one with flesh scabs, appearing to not have eaten in several days and living in what investigating deputies reported as deplorable conditions,” they also stated.
Deputies reacted quickly, and soon, the NPSO Animal Services Unit was on the scene. After that, animal services came to pick up the dogs and take them for evaluation.
Justice Will Be Served
Right after the dogs were in safety, the deputies started an investigation in order to find the owner. Since no one was home at that time, the investigation continued throughout the evening.
They were eventually able to identify the owner of the dogs as Alvin Metoyer. They met at approximately 8:45 p.m. when the suspect returned to his residence.
According to the post, Metoyer justified himself by saying that the dogs did not eat because they were sick. However, deputies managed to obtain sufficient evidence to make an arrest.
“Alvin J. Metoyer, 47, of the 100 block of Pecan Court Drive, Natchitoches was transported and booked into the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center charged with 2-Counts of Cruelty to Animals.” they wrote in the post, adding: “Metoyer remains in the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center with bond set by a 10th Judicial District Judge at $20,000.00.”
In any case, justice will be served and that is the most important thing. It should also be said that this is a strong message to all those who abuse or intend to abuse their pets.
The state will have no tolerance for such!
